On World Environmental Health Day, Prajakta Koli speaks about how young people can save the climate and meets Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in New York.
For content creator-turned-actor Prajakta Koli, serving as the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) India Youth Climate Champion brought about a sea change in her mindset. “If there is one issue that threatens the survival of humanity, it is the environment,” says 31-year-old Koli, who is currently representing India at Climate Week 2024 in New York (USA).

Today, on World Environmental Health Day, she noted the importance of introducing environmental education at an early age, saying, “When I was a student, we did not take environmental studies seriously. That mindset needs to change… Now, I use my social platforms to spread the conversation about climate action.”
The solution, she said, is for young people “to simply be part of the conversation.” “Young people are the most active demographic on digital platforms. They want to make a difference, they want to have an impact and they want to play their part,” she opined, adding, “To be truly effective, people in power need to take the voices of young people seriously.”
During Climate Week 2024, Prajakta had the opportunity to meet Danish actor and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Jaime in the TV series Game of Thrones. “We had great conversations both before and after filming for my channel, discussing how he’s using storytelling to advance the conversation about climate action. He’s so passionate about this work and it’s really inspiring,” she says.
