Collaborative efforts on fish and aquatic habitat
Valley Water launched the Fish and Aquatic Habitat Collaborative Effort (FAHCE) to protect and restore endangered fish species. This large-scale effort across three watersheds focuses on improving fish habitat and migration routes, balancing environmental and water supply needs. Lake Silveira
Lake Silveira’s transformation is the result of Valley Water’s efforts to create new wetland habitat and restore rainbow trout habitat in Lagasse Creek, an unincorporated area of Morgan Hill near the San Martin border. The restored section of Lagasse Creek is flowing with water for the first time in 40 years.
Coyote Ceanothus
Coyote Ceanothus is a rare and endangered plant found only in Morgan Hill. The plant was listed as endangered in February 1995, but at the time of listing, there were fewer than 6,000 Coyote Ceanothus plants in existence. Thanks to the efforts of Valley Water ecologists, numbers have increased by the thousands.
River and Watershed Protection Program
Valley Water’s Stream and Watershed Protection Program has protected approximately 3,600 acres of land in the upper reaches of Santa Clara County. Valley Water and its partners manage this land and protect the many conservation values it offers.
