Guitarist Phil Sgrosso has announced his departure from AS I LAY DYING. His departure comes just six days after drummer Nick Pearce and guitarist Ken Souci left the group, and 12 days after bassist and vocalist Ryan Neff announced he was also leaving the band.
Earlier today (Wednesday, October 30th), Sgrosso issued the following statement via social media:
“Thank you for waiting as I was taking some time to gather my thoughts before speaking about AS I LAY DYING’s current situation.
“Given recent events such as the departure of band members and the cancellation of a European tour ahead of the release of our new album, it is clear that we are in a difficult and serious situation.Simply put, recent actions have led to AS I LAY DYING shows no.” We can now provide a healthy and safe environment for everyone involved, whether creatively, personally or professionally. After witnessing some concerning patterns of behavior, I realized that I could not in good conscience allow any more behavior that could have a negative impact on the people I work with. For these reasons, I feel it is in my best interest, both creatively and personally, to distance myself completely from AS I LAY DYING.
“We would also like to give our full support to Ryan, Ken and Nick, who have recently chosen to retire. We are grateful for our accomplishments and friendship over the past three years.”
“Having dedicated 21 years to this band, I can’t accept quitting or abandoning what I thought was my ‘life’s work.’ I don’t believe that I or others should be forcibly removed.
“After everything we’ve done so far, we believe that with the right adjustments and restructuring, our music can continue to grow in a healthier environment and explore new possibilities.
“Over time, AS I LAY DYING has been hampered by dysfunction, but I feel it is no longer my responsibility to carry that burden.
“Thank you to everyone who has shown support for me and AS I LAY DYING’s music. I look forward to channeling my energy and creativity into new, more positive ventures in the near future.”
On October 24, Pearce released the following statement via social media: “At this time, I will no longer be playing drums for AS I LAY DYING. This is far from the ending I expected. I formed the band to preserve my personal health and integrity.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has followed and supported me throughout this journey. My goal has been, and continues to be, to create unforgettable memories with my friends and support my fans. It’s about writing music that truly touches your heart. I’m proud of that.” I’ve done the tour, and I’ve written and recorded drums for the new album.
“Looking to the future, I’m excited to continue my drumming career and pursue what I love most, which is making music. My touring and session schedule is currently open to new opportunities. It is open to
When Suci announced his departure from AS I LAY DYING, he wrote in a statement: “My time playing with AS I LAY DYING has come to an end today. I leave with a huge sense of gratitude to everyone who has followed and supported me since my time with the team.” Dig into this era of his career.
“I jumped into the AILD camp knowing full well that dramatic history was on the rise, but with the drive to just play great music with great friends. Unfortunately, my personal ‘s morals have been tested to breaking point recently, and now we have the saddest ending to what could have been this band’s greatest second chance.
“I have received a lot of backlash for Ryan Neff’s resignation earlier, and I regret not sharing this decision sooner and being more confident in standing by my friend. He is a consummate musician. And an even better person.”
“I’ll miss seeing you all on this stage, but I look forward to seeing you on the next one. Is anyone looking for a guitarist? My resume is ready.”
Neff announced his departure from AS I LAY DYING on October 18th, saying in a statement, “This choice was made after much consideration, and I believe it is the right step in my personal and professional journey.” I believe.
“I am grateful for the experiences and connections I made during my time in the band.
“Thank you to all the fans for their support.”

In June 2022, drummer Jordan Mancino announced that he would be absent from AS I LAY DYING’s tour, citing “a number of ongoing internal matters that have yet to be resolved.”
Mancino’s announcement comes less than a month after bassist and vocalist Josh Gilbert announced he was leaving the band. The remaining members of AS I LAY DYING said in a statement that Gilbert had “decided to leave” the group to “pursue other musical opportunities.”
Josh becomes the second member of AS I LAY DYING to leave the band in less than a year. In August 2021, guitarist Nick Hipa confirmed his departure from AS I LAY DYING, announcing his intention to participate in the “superficial pursuit” of “story and meaning” that formed the basis of the band’s 2018 reunion. explained that it could no longer be justified.
‘AS I LAY DYING’ singer Tim Lambesis was famously convicted in 2014 for his role in a murder plot against his estranged wife.
In May 2014, Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to paying a San Diego police officer $1,000 to pose as a hitman to kill his wife. After approximately two and a half years, on December 17, 2016, he was released from a California detention center and transferred to the Adult Parole Services Division.
In June 2018, AS I LAY DYING collaborated with Lambesis for the first time in five years and released a new single. Following his release, Lambesis also acknowledged his crimes in a lengthy apology on the band’s Facebook page.
AS I LAY DYING’s return has been a long time coming, especially since Hipa firmly condemned the band’s disgraced frontman in a social media post in 2014, calling him “a sociopathic narcissist who clearly needs rehab.” This raised a question.
In September 2021, AS I LAY DYING released a new song called “Roots Below,” which was originally a leftover B-side from the “Shaped By Fire” sessions.
