Berta Passola Forci was one set away from advancing to the singles main draw at the ITA All-Americans.
CARY, N.C. – California junior girls tennis player Berta Passola Forci was one set away from advancing to the main draw in the singles at the ITA U.S. Championships, but lost in three sets in her qualifying singles match on Tuesday and was eliminated from the tournament.
Passola Forci, ranked 106th in the ITA singles rankings, won the first set but lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to No. 11 seed Guillermina Grant of Georgia, ranked 75th in the world, at Cary Tennis Park.
In consolation singles on Tuesday, UC’s 80th-ranked senior Lan Mi defeated Appalachian State’s Savannah Dada Mascol 6-0, 6-4, while sophomore Mao Msika defeated UCLA’s 97th-ranked Elise Wagle 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
On Wednesday, Cal will feature No. 30 senior Jessica Arcola in the singles main draw, and the No. 16 pair of Arcola and Msica in the doubles main draw. Arcola will face No. 70 Sabine Rutlauka of the University of Pennsylvania in the round of 64 singles, starting at 10:30 a.m. PST, while Msica and Arcola will face No. 3 seeds and No. 4 Luciana Perry and Sydney Ratliff of Ohio State at a time to be announced.
The annual tournament concludes Sunday.
