MSNBC guest and Futro Media founder Maria Hinojosa argued Sunday that Latino voters want to be white, while discussing the shift of the voting bloc to the Republican Party in recent years.
“She has a 14-point lead, but that gap has narrowed in each successive presidential election since 2016. Why is that? Why is the Democratic share of the Latino vote decreasing? ” MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart asked about Vice President Kamala Harris’ lead among Latino voters.
An NBC Telemundo poll released Sunday showed Harris leading Trump among Latino voters, while the Democrat’s lead has fallen to its lowest level in four election cycles.
“And what I told you when you asked the question is that Latinos want to be white. They want to be with the cool kids,” she said, adding that she added that the Latinos he spoke to said Trump was a good businessman.

“No, that’s not true. He’s been bankrupt before,” she added. “But they don’t want to be identified with the other immigrants that Donald Trump speaks so badly of, including myself as a Mexican immigrant.”
Hinojosa also said those voters could cost Harris the election.
“But those numbers? They could cost Kamala Harris the election. Everything I’ve been saying that Latinos could propel her to the top, these are the things that could cost Kamala Harris the election. It’s a number that could bring down the country,” she said.
According to an NBC poll, Harris’ approval rating among Latino voters was 54%, compared to 40% for Trump.

Another 6% said they were unsure about voting or would not vote, according to the poll.
CNN’s Harry Enten recently warned that Harris is struggling among voters of color.
“Hispanic voters, four years ago Joe Biden won 66% of the vote in the Sunbelt,” he said. “Look at where we are now. Kamala Harris is at only 52%, so Kamala Harris is struggling among Hispanic voters. Donald Trump is doing much better than he was four years ago. ”

Enten said Tuesday that Harris received 82% of the black vote, but behind President Biden, who received 92%.
“The bottom line is that Kamala Harris is struggling among voters of color in the Sunbelt, which is much more diverse than the northern battleground states around the Great Lakes,” he added.
