For the first time in history, more Americans identify as Republicans than Democrats, according to a new analysis from Gallup. The polling organization found that, based on an average of polls from July to September, 48 percent of U.S. adults say they lean at least toward the Republican Party, compared to 48 percent who say the same about Democrats. was found to be only 45%. They also added that historically Democrats have won the White House because a higher percentage of Americans support them. For example, when Democrat Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992, 52 percent of Americans were affiliated with his party, compared to 40 percent of Republicans. In 2000, when Republican candidate George W. Bush took the White House, the gap narrowed even further, to 48% Democrats and 43% Republicans.
