James Watt, the billionaire co-founder of British brewery chain BrewDog, got more than he bargained for when he announced his engagement on LinkedIn.
The platform, typically reserved for people to share workplace success stories and musings about companies, was also where Watt decided to share a personal update.
Watt decided to embrace the corporate language and revealed that he proposed to his girlfriend Georgia Toffolo, a former reality TV star and influencer.
“I made a very nice deal last weekend. This is a long-term contract that will prepare me for future growth, both business and personal,” he wrote. “Mutual investment is thriving.”
According to The Sun, the businessman is worth at least $400 million.

Watt attached a photo of himself and his beaming bride showing off her engagement ring.
This post was reshared by The user attached a screenshot of the LinkedIn post and joked:
“LinkedIn is sick.”
That tweet was viewed more than 1 million times.
People online were divided on Watt’s choice to share the engagement news on his LinkedIn network.
One person wrote: “I’m sick to death.”
“This is really hilarious and iconic,” another claimed.
“That’s a shame,” said another.
“How lovely,” said another.

“Oh, that’s bad,” one person wrote, followed by a vomit emoji to drive home their point.
“That’s so embarrassing. I’m returning the ring,” said another.
Despite the backlash, Toffolo happily shared the engagement news on Instagram, where she has around 2 million followers.
She said on Instagram that getting engaged was the “best moment” of her life.
“James asked me to marry him and it was truly the best moment of my life,” she said. “I never expected to feel so happy. Becoming your wife is the easiest and quickest way.”

She also shared that she is grateful that they managed to find each other, considering there are billions of people in the world.
“I will forever love you and the magical life we are building.”
She then followed up that post with another post in which she gushed about him again.
“No one can tell you how intense this feeling of pure elation is. I’m on top of the world! I’m also the luckiest girl in the world! Surrounded by happiness! From the rooftop I want to scream,” she added.
Watt also posted about the engagement on Instagram, announcing the news in a more casual way.
“I’m so grateful that we managed to find each other, and even more grateful that we can build a life together,” he said.
