To the Editor: We expect historic voter turnout in California. (“Making history and expressing outrage may lead to record turnout among Californians,” September 16 column)
But here’s the question: Who is encouraging Latinos, who make up more than 30 percent of the state’s electorate, to vote?
A recent poll commissioned by the Latino Community Foundation found that more than half of registered Latino voters have not received any contact from any candidate, campaign, or civic group about voting, which is alarming because Latino voters have contributed to almost all of the state’s voter growth over the past decade.
Voting has never been easier, but still, how do you vote for someone or something you’ve never met?
With voting soon underway in California, ask your friends and neighbors how they plan to vote. It will bode well for our democracy and send a signal to our leaders that Californians are serious about the future of our state and country.
