Canada won the silver medal at the Paris Games in July, marking the best performance in the sport’s history.
Fresh off making history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, players from the Canadian women’s rugby sevens team were given a heroes’ welcome in the city of Langford.
Returning to the National Training Centre in Langford, Canada – the birthplace of rugby – players Chrissy Scurfield, Carissa Norsten and Sharaya Valenzuela met with Mayor Scott Goodmanson and many other city councillors at Starlight Stadium on September 13 to celebrate their achievements.
The three women and their teammates recorded Canada’s best ever Olympic performance in rugby sevens, winning the silver medal.
“Meeting an Olympic champion upon his return from Paris was an unforgettable opportunity,” said Gudmanson, who posed for photos wearing her Olympic silver medal.
“Langford is honoured to be Rugby Canada’s home training ground and we are grateful to our partners such as Rugby Canada for showcasing Langford as a premier sporting destination on the international stage, igniting pride and ambition in our community and inspiring local youth to pursue their sporting dreams. We are incredibly proud of our women’s team and all they have achieved.”
