La Villita to host San Antonio Asian Festival on May 11th
SAN ANTONIO (May 2, 2024) — The San Antonio Asian Festival returns to La Villita Historic Arts Village on Saturday, May 11th. The Asian Resource Center of San Antonio (ARCSA), in partnership with the City of San Antonio and the UTSA Texan Cultural Institute (ITC), will host a one-day event celebrating the diverse Asian diaspora in San Antonio and Bexar County.
Asian Festival is one of San Antonio’s premier family events, offering hands-on activities and opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences. Attendees will once again enjoy authentic cuisine, multicultural performances, educational demonstrations, music, games, art, fashion, crafts, and more. “The San Antonio Asian Resource Center is pleased and honored to partner with UTSA ITC and the City of San Antonio to host the San Antonio Asian Festival,” said ARCSA President Elisa Chan. “Through festivals, we hope to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to experience the flavors, traditions, and art of Asia. We believe it will continue to serve as a vibrant platform for fostering understanding, appreciation and unity.”
The festival, led by May Lam, was born as a grassroots initiative by members of the city’s Asian community to share their rich culture and traditions with a wider audience. Over the years, it has grown into a beloved annual event and part of San Antonio’s tradition.
“The City of San Antonio is proud to partner with the Asia Resource Center of San Antonio and UTSA’s Institute of Texas Culture to host the Asia Festival at the La Villita History and Arts Village,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “We invite everyone to join us and celebrate the diversity and culture of our San Antonio city.”
The event highlights UTSA’s commitment to celebrating cultural richness and is a key event during the university’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Heritage Month. All are invited to commemorate the significant legacy and contributions of the Asian and Pacific Islander community to San Antonio.
“The Asian Festival embodies UTSA’s commitment to celebrating and embracing diverse cultures, allowing both students and the broader community to draw from the rich tapestry of Asian traditions,” said Dean Hendricks, UTSA Vice President and Dean of University Libraries. “It embodies fostering an inclusive environment for learning and viewing.” “This partnership not only realizes our mission of transformative education, but also allows us to connect more deeply with our communities and positively contribute to their cultural and social fabric.”

Downtown can be busy on weekends, so plan accordingly. Numerous roads are closed to traffic in the downtown area, and several large events are taking place, which can lead to heavy traffic congestion. Take public transit, rideshare, bike, walk, or check out Google Maps or Waze before you go. Visit Downtown’s “Know Before You Go Downtown” website for helpful resources and parking information.
