The Supreme Court on Monday questioned the Andhra Pradesh government over the Tirupati prasadam agitation and said there was a need to go to the press when it was not clear whether adulterated ghee was used in preparing Tirumala laddoos.

“At least we hope that God will be kept out of politics,” the court held strongly.
The court told the Andhra government’s lawyers that the laboratory report showed that the ghee submitted for testing was a failed sample.
Justice BR Gabai asked senior advocate Siddharth Luthra whether substandard ghee was used to manufacture laddoos.
Luthra said an investigation is underway.
“So was it necessary to immediately go to the press? Religious sentiments need to be respected,” Judge Gabai said.
The Supreme Court also sought proof that contaminated ghee was used in the manufacture of prasadam.
The court decided to consider transferring the investigation from the state to an independent agency.

What is the Tirupati Laddu controversy?
