The foreign ministers of Iraq, Jordan and Egypt say Israel’s military operation in Lebanon and the carnage in the besieged Gaza Strip have brought the whole region to the brink of all-out war.
Following their meeting on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, the three ministers issued a joint statement calling for an immediate end to the regime’s brutality.
“Israel is pushing the entire region into all-out war,” they said.
The joint statement said the international community and the UN Security Council must “take responsibility to stop the war.”
“Stopping the ongoing and dangerous escalation of tensions in the region begins with ending Israel’s aggression in Gaza,” they said.
World leaders continue to call for de-escalation after Israel’s devastating airstrikes in Lebanon escalated regional tensions amid the Israeli regime’s genocidal war in Gaza. The deadly airstrikes by the Israeli regime, which began on Monday and continued through Tuesday, were Israel’s most violent attack on Lebanon in years.
“Israeli forces killed hundreds of people in Lebanon in just one day,” said Lama Faqih, West Asia and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 50 children were among those killed in regime airstrikes in the country.
