Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Law and Human Rights will recognize local governments for their efforts and successes in human rights protection.
During Monday’s discussion, the ministry’s human rights director, Dahana Putra, said these awards not only serve as recognition for regions, but also as an incentive for local governments to improve human rights-related services.
He explained that the evaluation process is currently in the third stage of validation and final evaluation, with the participation of 544 districts and cities in 38 states.
We classify and evaluate regions according to their level of human rights awareness. In addition to evaluations, the Directorate General for Human Rights reviews complaints received from the public through its complaints service as part of its transparency and accountability mechanisms.
Mr. Putra emphasized that human rights are a central pillar to strengthen Indonesia’s national ideology, Pancasila, based on Law No. 59 of 2024 on the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
“Human rights are not only enshrined in the Constitution, but are also the basis for fair and equitable national development,” he said.
Monday’s discussion included an evaluation team made up of senior officials from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, academics, and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
This team will be responsible for assessing the region’s progress and setbacks in human rights work, as well as resolving any alleged human rights violations that the district or city has not yet addressed.
He expressed the hope that, with the active participation of various stakeholders, this assessment would lead to reliable and accountable decisions and encourage local governments to further promote human rights in their areas. did.
The final results of the assessment will be announced during the commemoration of Human Rights Day on 10 December.
