Key Statement: “For Governor Kelly, the impact of the Panasonic project is significant and ongoing. The fact that we’ve been able to attract a company like Panasonic has already changed the perception of Kansas,” Governor Kelly said. “The people of Hays are very aware that this is happening. They’re proud and excited about what’s to come,” the Governor said.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly believes the opening of a $4 billion electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in DeSoto early next year will revolutionize the region’s economy, lifestyle and self-image. “The overall impact of this is just transformational,” Governor Kelly said of the massive 4.7 million square foot Panasonic factory nearing completion. “The northeast part of the state is going to look and feel very different,” he said. There’s no denying the good news. Panasonic Energy of North America President Alan Swan said in June that the DeSoto plant “will be the largest battery manufacturing plant in the world.” For Kelly, Panasonic’s arrival marks the culmination of (nearly) $20 billion in new capital investment resulting from 1,300 economic development wins in the state during her tenure. The jobs Panasonic creates will lead to even more significant job growth. “We’re excited to see suppliers opening factories, and we expect to see an additional 4,000 jobs,” Governor Kelly said.
