SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced a proclamation declaring September 15 through October 15, 2024 as “Latinx Heritage Month.”

declaration
California is home to more than 15 million Latinos, who are the foundation of our state’s identity, success, and future. During Latin American Heritage Month, we celebrate the central role of Latin Americans throughout each chapter of our history and in our rich culture and prosperity as a state and nation.
Latinos are California’s largest ethnic group, with diverse roots in the Americas, indigenous communities in Latin America and Africa, and other regions. The contributions of generations of Latinos have helped shape California’s society, economy, culture, and values. The leadership, service, sacrifice, and vision of Latin Americans continues to enrich every aspect of American life.
Californians understand that diversity is a source of strength and believe that our state is better off when all communities have the opportunity to thrive. Together, we have driven innovative investments and actions that empower Latinx communities across California and create a brighter future for all of us.
California is transforming its public education system by investing in universal transitional kindergarten and community schools and improving college access and affordability. We’re building more affordable housing, protecting workers, supporting small businesses, and building new paths for students and workers to succeed in whatever career they choose.
We expand access to health care regardless of immigration status, lower the cost of life-saving medicines, and support the expansion of behavioral health care, including Veterans Affairs services. The state is working to improve food security and nutrition through universal school lunches and farm-to-school programs, and California is leading the global transition to a clean energy future – cleaner air and less pollution. I am.
Through bold action and comprehensive policies that expand opportunity, keep all Californians safe, dispel the forces of hate and injustice, and advance collective progress, we will build a California that works for everyone. We continue to work to make our dreams come true.
This month and every month, let us recognize and celebrate the countless contributions of the Latinx community to California’s story over the centuries and for generations to come.
Accordingly, I, California Governor Gavin Newsom, proclaim September 15, 2024, to October 15, 2024, as “Latinx Heritage Month.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby extend my hand and cause the Great Seal of California to be sealed this September 17, 2024.
