EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Eglin celebrated the importance of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month during a May 29 ceremony. This year’s theme was “Advancing Leadership Through Innovation.”
“The AANPI community includes many ethnic groups with diverse backgrounds, histories, languages and cultures,” said Staff Sgt. Shanae Eugenio, Project Officer. “We share common morals and values, which are reflected in the way we serve in the military. AANHPI Heritage Month recognizes historic experiences in American history.”
May dedication ceremonies to the AANHPI community commemorated the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and commemorated the anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869. Most of the workers who built the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
Mr. Eugenio proudly supports generations of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in serving the military’s mission and preserving the peace and freedom we all enjoy around the world. He said that he has contributed. The military celebrates the importance of diversity and inclusion in building a bright future throughout the year, she added.
A local Filipino dance group provided entertainment. Asian themed dishes were served.
