WOONSOCKET, R.I. , Sept. 25, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — CVS Health® (NYSE: CVS) is actively preparing for Hurricane Helen, which is set to make landfall in Florida tomorrow. Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers, members and colleagues, and we are committed to providing access to the products and services our communities need to prepare for the storm.
CVS Pharmacy® is reaching out to patients by text, email and phone to encourage them to refill and pick up their prescriptions. Stores are also receiving additional supplies of emergency supplies, including water, batteries and first aid supplies. CVS Caremark®, the company’s pharmacy benefit manager, is making a one-time emergency refill of a 10-day supply of medication available to plan members in affected areas to be billed at pharmacies. CVS Specialty® patients who are within the emergency area and take specialty medications will be contacted to discuss alternative delivery arrangements, if necessary. Aetna®’s clinical response team is expanding collaboration with Medicare and commercial members in potentially affected areas to ensure members’ safety and access to emergency services. Additionally, Aetna is liberalizing its Resources For Living (RFL) services to allow individuals and organizations to access healthcare, whether or not it is part of an existing benefit. Liberalized services include in-the-moment mental health phone support, a dedicated crisis support website, and community resource information. Individuals and organizations without an RFL can call 1-833-327-AETNA. Individuals and organizations with an RFL should contact their designated RFL number. CVS Health is also reaching out to coworkers at risk from the storm to ensure they are safe and offer crisis assistance. Information about community resources and emotional support services is available through the company’s Employee Assistance Program.
CVS Pharmacy stores will follow all local evacuation orders. If there are mandatory closures, affected stores will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. If a store is closed for more than a day, the pharmacy’s phone lines will be redirected to a nearby open CVS Pharmacy to help patients access their prescriptions. Patients with scheduled vaccinations will be notified of any rescheduled appointments via email or text message.
CVS Health also recommends the following tips to help people who may be affected by the storm get their prescription needs met:
Follow local evacuation orders. Get to a safe place and refill your medications at the nearest pharmacy. This will avoid long lines at the pharmacy and unnecessary delays in evacuation. Bring your current medications in a waterproof bag. It doesn’t matter if the bottle is empty. The information on your prescription label will help pharmacy staff when you ask for a refill. Protect your medications from extreme weather conditions, as heat, humidity, and sunlight can reduce the effectiveness of your medications. Keep a record of your current prescriptions on hand. If you are taking multiple prescription medications, it’s especially good to keep a record of the medications you are currently taking, the dosage, and your doctor’s contact information.
CVS Health remains committed to supporting the community and is in contact with disaster relief organizations to help communities respond to and recover from the storm.
