groundbreaking project
Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research is embarking on a multi-year, multilingual study focused on the Asian American community, one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the Houston area. With your support, this effort will build on Dr. Steven L. Kleinberg’s previous work and provide even more important insights.
Monoracial non-Hispanic Asians are projected to surpass Hispanics by mid-century to become the nation’s largest immigrant group. By 2055, Asians will make up 36% of all U.S. immigrants, and Hispanics will make up 34%, according to Pew Research Center projections.
Closer to home, the Houston metropolitan area saw its Asian population grow by 53% between 2010 and 2020, nearly triple the region’s overall growth rate.
A portrait of Asian American experiences and attitudes
To capture a representative sample, this research study required extensive outreach to Asian American households in Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties in multiple languages, including Simplified Chinese and Vietnamese. there is. Participants will be recruited through the Greater Houston Community Panel.
Once these findings have been analyzed, the Kinder Institute will publish a special report highlighting participants’ perceptions, experiences and attitudes over time.
