ASHLAND — The Arrows held firm, while the Falcons soared a little higher.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its second installment of high school football computer ratings Tuesday and undefeated Ashland and Hillsdale both are sitting pretty.
Ashland stood pat at third in Region 7 of Division II, while Hillsdale moved up two spots and is second in Division VII, Region 25.
The OHSAA divides its 700-plus football-playing schools into seven enrollment divisions. Each enrollment division is split into four geographic regions. The top 16 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs.
The Arrows (10.2515) maintained their spot thanks to last week’s 37-20 win over Maple Heights. The Division III Mustangs were 3-1 going into last week’s game. Ashland visits Madison (1-4) on Friday.
Big Walnut (11.05) took over the top spot in Region 7 by virtue of last week’s 31-28 win over Westerville South. Walnut Ridge (10.65) slipped to second after a 46-0 win over winless Columbus South.
Meanwhile, Hillsdale (8.25) picked up a windfall of computer points with last week’s 35-31 win over Dalton. The Division VI Bulldogs were 3-1 going into last week’s Wayne County Athletic League showdown. Unbeaten Wester Reserve (9.1) maintained the top spot in Region 25.
Black River is 2-3 and is rated 14th with 2.8 points in Division VI, Region 21.
Previously winless Crestview climbed into contention in Division VI, Region 22. The Cougars (1-4) are 22nd after last week’s 67-0 win over New London.
Mapleton (1-4) is tied for 25th in Region 22.
Loudonville (0-5) is tied for 24th in Division VII, Region 27.
The top eight schools from each region in the final report Oct. 27 will qualify for a home playoff game in the first round when the postseason begins.
