DALLAS/ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans, the ECHL affiliate of Utah Hockey Club sponsored by Energy Partners Transfers, dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Wichita Thunder on Wednesday night in Allen.
Wichita’s Michal Stinir scored two goals in a span of 3 minutes and 15 seconds in the second period for the American team, blowing 2-0 and 3-1 leads to tie the game at 3-3.
Wichita forward Jay Dickman scored on a power play at 1:09 of the third period to give the Thunder their first lead of the game at 4-3.
Ten minutes later, the Americans tied the game at 4-4 when forward Easton Brodzinski beat Wichita goaltender Aaron Dell on his second breakaway of the game at 10:09. This remained the same even after the regulation ended.
Time ran out in overtime, and Ryan Finnegan scored the winning goal with 11.4 seconds left in overtime, resulting in a four-game losing streak for the Americans.
The Americans earned one point with the overtime loss and are now 0-3-1 after four games.
The Americans will travel to Salt Lake City on Thursday and play back-to-back games against the Utah Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday nights at the Maverick Center in West Valley City, Utah.
