Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms said it has struck deals with actors including Judi Dench, Kristen Bell and John Cena to provide voices for its Meta AI chatbot. A source familiar with the company’s plans told Reuters on Monday that the new voice feature will let users choose the voice for Meta’s ChatGPT-like digital assistant from a list of five celebrities, including Awkwafina and Keegan-Michael Key, as well as several more generic voice options.
The social media giant plans to unveil the audio feature at its annual “Connect” conference, which starts on Wednesday, the people said.
Meta will unveil the first edition of its augmented reality glasses at this year’s Connect, and will also discuss its roadmap for other hardware devices, including the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which last year became the first product to feature a voice version of the Meta AI chatbot. Sources told Reuters the celebrity testimonials will launch this week in the United States and other English-speaking markets across Meta’s suite of apps, which include Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
