Richmond’s Choice School for Gifted Children provides individualized support and specialized education to help talented learners reach their full potential.
Gifted children often stand out academically, but finding the right environment to nurture their potential can be a challenge.
Serving families in Richmond, Delta and the surrounding areas, Choice School for Gifted Children provides specialized education that recognizes and supports the unique needs of gifted learners.
Choice School of East Richmond provides an environment where gifted students can truly thrive through individualized instruction, small class sizes, and a focus on both academic and emotional development.
A school designed for gifted students
At Choice Schools, we focus not only on academics but also on creating an environment where gifted children can thrive holistically. Gifted students are those who often outperform their peers academically, but may also face challenges in their social and emotional development.
“Academically, these children are above their age level, but socially and emotionally they are at the same level as their peers. This disparity can cause anxiety and that’s where our school comes in,” said Sukhbir Borina, principal at Choice School for Gifted Children.
Choice School is designed to meet the specific needs of these students, offering small class sizes and individualized instruction – with an average of only eight to nine students per class, teachers and educational assistants can provide these students with the intensive support they need.
In addition to classroom teachers, schools employ specialists such as occupational therapists and behavioral consultants to ensure students’ social and emotional needs are addressed along with their academic growth.

Why gifted students need special consideration
In a typical public school classroom, gifted students can easily be overlooked.
“In a class of 30 students, teachers often have to focus on the majority of the students, and gifted children end up bored and understimulated,” says Bolina.
“Gifted children need constant intellectual stimulation. They have a constant hunger for knowledge.”
Choice School’s curriculum goes beyond standard academics: students are encouraged to pursue their passions, whether that be by diving deep into advanced science and math topics or working on creative projects like calligraphy, robotics or music.
“These kids don’t just want to watch TV, they want to open an encyclopedia and learn more,” Bolina said.
The school environment fosters this curiosity and allows students to explore their interests at their own pace.

Holistic Development for Dually Exceptional Learners
Choice Schools also recognize the unique challenges faced by “doubly exceptional” students who are gifted but also have learning difficulties or disabilities.
“These students need more specialized support,” Borina said.
“Our teachers are trained to meet both the advanced intellectual abilities and academic challenges of our students.”
Our small class sizes and individualized learning plans ensure that students receive the attention they need to succeed in all areas of their development. We offer a balanced education that addresses both cognitive and emotional growth.
Unlocking the potential of talented students
Bolina stresses the importance of nurturing the potential of talented students.
“Gifted children need to be allowed to thrive,” says Bolina, “and we focus on providing them with the support and stimulation they need to reach their full potential, both academically and emotionally.”
By providing a customized education in small, supportive classrooms, Choice School ensures that every talented child has the opportunity to thrive.
